Power Electronics Engineer - Worthing

This position is necessary to strengthen and grow our core competence of power electronic design, enabling SSDE to execute new product designs on time and on budget whilst also maintaining existing designs.

The job-holder should have at least 3-5 years experience working within an industrial design environment. They will join a team of 5-10 electronic Engineers based within our Worthing facility. They will contribute to projects that may potentially extend across all of the engineering functional teams and will report directly to the Electronics Team Manager. They will ideally be qualified to graduate level in Electronic or Electrical Engineering and have a keen interest to pursue a career in the design and implementation of power electronic products.

Design implementation of power electronic aspects within our range of variable speed drives including -
power stack design & layout for 230V to 690V supplies and power levels in the range 1kW to 110kW
thermal performance calculations
IGBT gate drive design & short-circuit protection
DC link component sizing
SMPS design
schematic entry
EMC compliance
electrical safety
Testing of designs to verify specification and to validate the design
Adherence to the company’s quality procedures (ISO 9001)
Following the Winovation process (stage gate) and contributing to deliverables
Implementing and working to an activity plan such that projects are delivered on time and within budget
Working both on new product designs and maintenance and value engineering of existing designs
Investigating and solving reported customer issues with our products
Occasional site visits to customers or other Parker locations as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

The position requires an appropriately qualified graduate Engineer with:-

Electronic or Electrical Engineering Degree or higher
Knowledge of power electronic components (IGBTs, Thyristors etc.) and their applications to modern variable speed drives (power stacks and SMPS design)
A logical and fact-based approach to decision making
Good problem solving skills
Good communications and interpersonal skills
The ability to work both within a team and in isolation

The hours of work are 830am to 530pm Monday to Friday. Benefits include 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, company pension scheme, healthcare and free parking.

The salary is £35,000 to £40,000 dependent on experience
